Audiences witness an elaborate stage play detailing the life and times of Panglima Awang, a Malaccan boy turned hostage sailor after the Portuguese army’s invasion of Malaysia. Each half hour show combines historical facts, live theatre performances, and traditional dances, along with state-of-the-art technological special effects in order to create an immersive rendering of the tale.

Melaka Alive

Emerging from the ribs of Bandar Hilir, Melaka Alive undertakes a careful cultivation of the eponymous state’s historical events and locales, reincarnating each tale with a blend of technology and theatricality. Using avant-garde machinery, stories from six centuries of history are imbued with 5D effects, including light projections and sound scapes, with visitors allowed to interact directly with each unfolding tale. Holographic visions notwithstanding, rejuvenated museums, maritime galleries, and a rebuilt fort wall are expected to be included as a juxtaposition against the multimedia performances in the project’s second phase.
